Brief History of JDPC Archdiocese of Jos
Our Roots
JDPC Jos is the social arm of the Catholic Church, offering service delivery, advocacy, and filling social gaps across communities—upholding human dignity for all, regardless of background.
Founding Days (1980s - 1992)
The journey began in the 80s with awareness drives in parishes, coordinated by Late Rev. Fr Mike Nwodo. In 1992, Archbishop Gabriel Ganaka appointed Fr Maurice Henry, who reorganized it into the Integral Development Commission (IDC) and introduced community-based training and education programs.
Evolution to JDPC (2001 - Present)
In 2001, Fr Anthony Fom led the transition from IDC to JDPC under CBCN directives. It was restructured into thematic areas like Women Empowerment, Good Governance, Peace Building, and Social Welfare.
Legal Recognition (2011)
In 2011, the organization was registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission as the "Social Justice and Human Development for Peace Initiative", with Archbishop Ignatius Kaigama and other key figures as trustees.
